'Coincidental' ANC rally to clash with new party launch

A mass gathering to provide feedback to African National Congress members in the Free State is planned for December 16 in Bloemfontein, the party said on Tuesday.

This would coincide with the December 16 launch in Bloemfontein of the new political party headed by Mosiuoa Lekota and Mbhazima Shilowa.

Free State ANC provincial secretary Sibongile Besane said a provincial programme, called Operation Maslohata, was launched in Welkom on September 6 and the new provincial executive committee (PEC) would provide feedback on December 16.

"Attached to that programme, we adopted a 100-day programme of the newly elected PEC of the ANC in the Free State. So, we will be closing that 100 days on the 16th of December."

Speaking to journalists in Bloemfontein, Besane said the meeting would be held at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium in Rocklands, Bloemfontein.

Besane said he was aware the rally would coincide with the launch of the new political party.

"Now, I know it coincides with the launching of Sadec or convention, it was not a deliberate decision that was taken but coincidental, the 16th of December."

Besane said the meeting was not intended to intimidate ANC dissidents.

"We have our own programme of action and we are going to stick to it, so we will be closing operation Maslohata on that day," he said.

Besane said Operation Maslohata was a programme which involved ANC branches conducting door-to-door visits, with an eye on the election set for April 2009.

He said the meeting on December 16 would be to inform the rank-and-file of the ANC "how far we have gone implementing it [Maslohata]".

Besane said they wanted ANC members to fill the stadium on that day. - Sapa

You gotta love to be a South African...

Who's the boss now? Shitkota are reaping their own plantings. Lekota thought he was clever for using ANC infrastructure for his ego, he forgot to that ANC is not dum either.

Call it coincidental or not, it just makes one feel proud of this country.

"Operation Maslohata" ? What the hell is that? They shoulbhave called it operation nonsense. So the ANC's saying that there's no crisis is fake because they want to make sure that they do everything that sort of quashes the new breakaway party. The ANC has now run out of ideas and as usual their president is going to spend the taxpayer's hard-earned money in court, typical ANC.

Whilst it can't be expected that the ANC will do the emerging party any favours, it smacks of political immaturity. The ruling party seems to be totally blind to possible confrontations that could occur with violence a real possibility which at the end of the day, won't directly affect them but ordinary South Africans. One can only hope that Lekota et al will change the date or the venue, even if it's at the cost of being seen to be scared of the ANC - but we know the guilty are the ones that are afraid. If anything let the need to save precious South African lives prevail...

Looks like the bus charter companies are going to have a highly profitable day.

First Zuma organizes a 'coincidental' rally in Soweto on a weekend of the Convention, luckily the Convention was ahead of schedule, now this?
I say the mighty ANC is dead scared of this break-away faction and they'll try by all means to destruct them, even if it means finishing their so-called 'feedback' gathering early so that they can go and disrupt the launch party. My advice to Shikota is, change the venue!

Maslohata se Mo*r! ANC is trying hard to intimidate the dissident and some of us who never voted for them before. I dont know how far and how low they are willing to stoop in their desperation to keep those who want to leave the party.

They deny people with dissenting voices venues to hold their meetings. Keep sticking your head in teh sand. Watch how you (ANC) are going to loose all the by-election to come in the areas where you have recalled councillors!

the ANC is stooping low now. it is looking more and more desparate. as the stronger, older, and more organised party they should be seting the pace, not following. at the end of the day the winner won't be decided by the members, but the general public who at this point see a desparate ANC. ANC ask youselves this. what did the ANC leaders do when the PAC was ganing popularity? decide if you want to be trend setters or followers. lastly don't have the arogance of thinking you will govern untill Jesus comes back. the republicans never thought Obama would defit them, Goliath never thought David would kill him. the Np never thought blacks would ever govern SA. ZANU never thought MDC would win an election. if you are going to win this election, it will only be on merit, not sentiment.

I've said it before... I'll say it again... this country is not a democracy! It is a one part state. The sooner people get this.. the sooner we cna try become a democracy!

So Besane says "It was not a deliberate decision that was taken but coincidental". I don't know whether to laugh or feel deeply insulted that anyone with any brain whatsoever can expect any reasonable human being to swallow that horse manure.

It displays the overweaning arrogance of a political party that is bereft of any decent principles, and fears opposition because it knows deep down that it has failed our country in so many areas and will be called to account.

But then, this sort of balderdash is typical of many statements that come out of the present 'leadership'. Anyone who falls for it will probably be so gullible they also believe that the moon is made out of cheese.

Perhaps the sadest part of all, is that there will be supporters who DO believe this.
