Jozi’s hippest visual treat for 2009

The Jo’burg Art Fair is an annual art extravaganza presented by First National Bank. From April 3 to 5 2009, 26 major galleries will take up 5 000 square metres of the Sandton Convention Centre, boasting the largest collection of African and South African contemporary art the world has ever seen under one roof.

New to this year’s fair, the Gordon Schachat collection will be presenting Security, a unique installation by internationally acclaimed South African artist Jane Alexander and Tumelo Mosaka who has been contracted to curate a selection of moving-image work from countries in the Global South.

The fair will also include BMW Art Talks from the artists and boast a stand featuring a selection of the best of contemporary South African furniture.

Book lovers will welcome the news of a designer book space, plus an on-site Vida e Caffé and a slinky lounge bar.

The Jo’burg Art Fair is set to be the hippest cultural event to hit South Africa’s most intensely creative African metropolis in 2009.
