Oscar Pistorius arrested for assault

South Africa's double amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius has been arrested for assault, police said on Sunday.

Sergeant Miranda Stoltz told eTV that Pistorius, who spent the night in jail after the arrest on Saturday, was due to appear in court soon.

He was first arrested for assault after slamming a door on a woman but the police later changed the charge to common assault, said Stoltz, adding that according to his family and friends it was just an accident.

Pistorius, who had both legs removed between the knee and ankle as a baby, is nicknamed "Blade Runner" because of the prosthetic legs that enable him to sprint.

He began competing against able-bodied athletes in 2007 but the governing IAAF banned him after ruling that his artificial limbs gave him an unfair advantage.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport lifted the ban last year and although he missed out on qualification for the Olympics, he won three gold medals in the Beijing Paralympics. - Reuters

People will do anything these days to get attention, why did this chick put her leg on the door to start with...

Wow, arent our cops good? Slam a door on someone and you get to spend the night in jail!

Rape, murder and pillage and they dont bother.

Report a theft or robbery and they'll tell you to "come down to the station and make a report" after which nothing even happens.

Drive drunk and if your name is Yengeni, the cops will fraudulently change the records.

I cannot understand why Oscar Pistorius spent a night in jail. It sounds like a very minor event and also he is not likely to abscond,so why not let the charge be laid and then send him home? Minor offenders end up arrested and major offenders are not caught. Would that be because it is less hard work and less dangerous to apprehend the law-abiding? I hope Oscar was not locked up with dubious characters and that he is all right.
Maybe this woman has her side of the story but it sounds like she owes Pistorius an apology.

Yeah, and now it looks like Pistorius does not have a leg to stand on.

Our "justice" system again forgetting why they exist and perpetrating injustices by adhering to the letter of the law.

Sue them Oscar and make it count. Unfortunately the taxpayer pays instead of the policemen going to jail for stupidity.

Thats how it starts! first it's a slam of the door on a woman next the poor woman is 6 feet under. nip it in the bud. prinsloo must go to jail 4 life. these are tendencies of a psychopathic killer!save all other women who may be unfortunate to cross his path. bring back the death penalty!

Izzy.. im sorry but i think that's a bit extreme! i bet it wasn't more than a slam... and where was she standing anyway? you find she was probably nowhere near the door and broke a nail trying to open it anyway.... they both have their stories and before we through judgement i reckon we hear both sides first...
