Julius Malema's life was in danger and VIP protection guards will now watch over him around the clock, the Police Ministry said on Saturday. Spokesperson Zweli Mnisi said a threat analysis conducted by crime intelligence officers revealed that the ANC Youth League leader needed protection. "He wrote us a letter saying his life was in danger. Our crime intelligence then investigated and sent recommendations to the police Commissioner. "Based on those findings, VIP protection was then decided on," Mnisi said. He would not elaborate on the findings of the investigation and denied newspaper reports that Malema had received death threats. "I cant disclose the nature of the threats and I categorically deny saying he had received death threats," he said. ANCYL spokesperson Floyd Shivambu also declined to discuss the matter. The ANC said in a statement on Saturday that it was "worried" by the threats and that Malema was entitled to protection despite opposition parties saying it was an "outrageous waste of taxpayers' money". "It is unthinkable that these opposition parties could equate the security threat towards comrade Julius as a 'status thing and a waste of resources'. "Prominent leaders of political parties are entitled to VIP protection as and when their personal lives are under threat," said national ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu. He said reactions by the Democratic Alliance and the Independent Democrats to the matter were "outrageous and insensitive". But Democratic Alliance spokesperson Dianne Kohler Barnard maintained that Malema was not entitled to VIP protection. "Since when does the state pay for members of political parties to receive protection? This man is not a politician ... he's merely a head of one wing within a unit of the ANC. What right do they have to spend taxpayers' money on him? "I think it is outrageous that they are using taxpayers' money on this man when he is the one who threatens to kill people ... he brought this on himself," she said. - Sapa TOPICS IN THIS ARTICLE

The secretly, complexly coded messages to subversive, anti-revolutionary hitmen calling on them to take out Malema, and inserted surreptitiously into websites critical of the ANCYL president, must have finally been decoded! Woo hoo!

Ag please man.
Juju tried to evade a speeding ticket, by driving with a blue light. Illegaly. This is merely him, trying to justify speeding, and to get off criminal charges. Plus, juju does not work for government. He must pay for protection himself, or the lithuli house must foot the bill. The tax payer does not pay for services for the leader of a youth league.

Why should we pay for this bloody idiots security. He's brought about this "danger" himself. Let him pay for his own security. If he can afford a Mercedes AMG and a house in such a posh area, he can afford his own security. Since when does the taxpayer pick up the tab for the ANCYL? Who are they? Were they elected? Now I understand why this idiot was prepared to kill for Zuma. He managed to climb the corupt gravy train very nicely.

Guys, you have to look at this very carefully. This is just Einstein Malema's way of defeating the ends of justice, it is going to cost us a pretty penny and he is not entitled to it. On the other hand, if we lose him, we lose the biggest comedian in SA and who are we going to laugh at then?
Henk Els on November 7, 2009, 6:48 pm
Why must I pay for his protection? This is bullshit, he is not a high ranking member of goverment nor a political leader and anyway this just proves he is all mouth and no balls or is this just a ploy to get out of the investigation into his speeding? I think it is time that we as taxpayers start demanding accountability for the way in which our taxes are being wasted

He is flattering himself in thinking that someone would spend R15.00 on a .223 round for him. Come on, not only do I have to listen to Julie Dilemma's intelligence-bereft comments, I now have to pay for it too? A bit like paying the good old SABC TV licence...pointless.

This adds to all the good reasons for a NATION-WIDE TAX BOYCOTT.
Why, why, why, should we (who do real hard work and earn much less than B-F Malema) have to pay for the fat boobie's protection? I, mean, come on. The biggest danger to that yob is himself. And, anyway, as others have observed, Malema is not in public office. He's just a self-serving member of a political party. He is not entitled to public protection. Woza The Great National Tax Boycott of 2010/11, woza!

Animal Farm-1209 knows this Chinese proverb that goes: “If you have nothing wise to say, quote an ancient Chinese proverb.”
Animal Farm-1209 has nothing wise to say to Mr. J. Malema except to repeat ourselves: “Big business are not stupid, they will not wait until this grand debate has firmly taken root both in the center stage and minds of our people, but want to abort it at its embryonic stage. Their plan is to sow seeds of division by hatching this dubious plan that SACP and COSATU have an "agenda", as if their socialist inclinations were hidden all along. People who have a dubious agenda can only be Billy and the so called moderates. The faint talk about the Nationalization of Mineral Resources has hit a raw nerve; hence capital is up in arms to derail everything that has to do with this talk of the men on the street.” Animal farm-1209 would like to wish this young man long life and we will always keep him in our prayers as long as he pursues the Nationalization of our Mineral Resources. It is not hidden to Animal Farm-1209 that God of Black People will keep this young man’s head above the water as long as he always keep on the side of Black People.

This can probably be contested legally.
If there is no law to protect us from the ruling party getting away with this. then they can apply the same logic to everyone in their party. There will not be space on the highways for any vehicle other than blue light convoys.

"crime intelligence officers"
Do we have such a thing as crime intelligence in this country? Or they are only there to analyse the crime affecting VIP not the voters. This is ILLEGAL and the opposition parties should see that it does NOT see the light of day.Julius Malema is an ANCYL leader,he works for the ANC and it is the ANC who should be paying for his bodyguards,NOT the South African taxpayers. If this is NOT proof enough about the priorities of these selfish and useless ANC leadership, the South African voters have no brains at all. If this will succeed, then COPE,DA,ID,INKATHA youth leaders should be assigned board guards. Otherwise Malema should get his own board guard.Malema does nothing for the country,he might say things for Zuma now and then but that does not entitle him to VIP protection.Come on ANC,this is not a BANANA republic. Our lives as South Africans are in danger of crime every day and we demand protection as well. Has the so "called crime intelligence officers" not seen the need for the protection of the public from crime yet? I'm leaving these shores, this country is like South Park.

Get ready SA to fork out R300 000 per month of your taxes. Told you, so didn't we, that you will not be any different from Zim and the rest.
The "life" of an unelected official, as we know from experience, is worth more than that of the povo. The rest of you can be robbed, murderer and/or raped but that is of little importance as long as golden boy is protected. Is he a government official of a ranking that requires high level protection? Why is the ANC not footing the bill? Am being careful to put it as "life" because I know this is all smoke and miirors to detract form all the negative publicity the latest of which is the speeding offence for which they are persecuting officials who were only doing their job. This is what you get when you make corrupt officials into demi-Gods.

The ANC is so pathetic…
1. Malema with is big mouth, dig his own grave (No ANC member is stopping him…thus the ANC approve his behavior) 2. The total ANC decisions are based on self-enrichment. 3. The ANC have wasted Billions and billions of Rands… 4. like street and town name changing, parties, 5. fruitless “investigations” with no results or plans, 6. our educational system is a total failure, 7. 80% failure of companies with BEE involment, 8. 90% “took-over-farms” are unproductive and wasted, 9. skills based economy on skin color not on merit of education, 10. Departments: Water /Electricity/Roads/Hospitals/Schools in last stages of collapse, 11. outrageous body-guards expenses, 12. Expensive “gov” cars, first class plane ticket to fly domestic and international, 5 stat accommodations… 13. CORRUPTION lots and lots of it!!! GET A GRIP A-N-C YOU, ARE DESTROYING THIS COUNTRY!!!!!! Give us (the TAX payer) your plans (Action and date – delivered) how you are going to “FIX” this!

What a supreme ego this twerp has! His protection should of course be paid by the membership funds received - Oh those have been siphoned off inexplicably to no-one knows where!! Tax payers strikes are what I deem a necessity now. Buggered if I'm paying for this tosser's protection from nothing. Oh and who watched Judge for Yourself this week - a trade union spokeperson calling for a ban on job brokers - calling them parasites. Considering that the unions do not generate funds, earn their keep off the back of their members subs, I find this unnacceptable, but it was again pointed out that this was another area in which government had failed the people. God when will it end! When we stop paying taxes, when the mining houses close down the mines until they have been reimbursed and let the workers go so that government can do their own recruiting and running the mines. Perhaps Minime could possibly earn an honest days wage for once. Zuma has never worked a day in his life it would appear and niether has Minime - both parasites then in that case. The government handbook they keep referring to also needs a serious revamp - and by the way do these folk pay tax, perks tax an rates on their fancy houses for is that just a phenonena that happens in western government?

I have several problems with the protection of this idiot
1 He is only the leader of the ANCYL and NOT a minister or political leader therefore if he wants protection then he must apply to the ANC and not waste my tax money which the police could rather spend on petrol and maintenance of their patrol vehicles. 2 When I used to shoot competitive I could put 5 shots in a 1 inch circle at 200 meters and I am not a good shot. Some of the guys that I competed against could put 5 shots into a 2.5 inch circle at 500 meters so just how are the police going to protect him? Maybe something like the popemobile? Actually the popemobile might be a good idea with the addition of a couple of bars for malema to swing from. Just think of the entertainment value. 3 How come the DA and IFP youth league leaders are unprotected or do they actually have balls and are not scared of their own people? If malema did indeed receive any threats against his life it does not say much for his popularity and his faith in his own fellow ANC members does it? 4 During the height of the rooi gevaar the groot krokodil used to travel with two speed cops in front of his car and inside the car would be krokodil, his secretary and one bodyguard. No blue lights, no convoy of escort vehicles. He sure had BALLS, big brass ones and now today we have this little pipsqueak with his convoy and then he still wants police protection? To me this is a just a way to avoid being prosecuted for his speeding and use of a blue light because he can now cry that his life was in danger and that he was fleeing from disgruntled shack dwellers who took exception to his flashy car

I know that there are different understandings of what democacy is, but I take the meaning from Wiki to be as follows: "Even though there is no specific, universally accepted definition of 'democracy', there are two principles that any definition of democracy includes, equality and freedom. These principles are reflected by all citizens being equal before the law, and having equal access to power. A third common principle, though less measurable, is that all citizens are promised certain legitimized freedoms and liberties, which are generally protected by a constitution." Any problems with this?

Julius IS the next president! He and his band of clowns from the left hijacked the ANC's flawed electoral process at Polekwane and became KINGMAKERS. This had a price attached to it and that is why Zuma can only stick around for ONE term. do you guys think that is by choice?! Zuma openly acknowledges Julius as "a leader in the making" despite all this nonsense he spews. AFTER HIS FIRST TERM IT IS PAYBACK TIME! In the meantime he is going to need protection if he carries on so brashly, but then again if we can ensure that the cops posted are not corrupt, it might even be a good way of keeping tabs on Julius's activities and help keeping his nose clean!

Yes. We are all sitting and watching the country slip into a free fall, this has been repeated in abnosium. Just a thought though... While we are so pre-occupied with these minor distractions, China wets its lips as one-by-one, it approaches our "trusted" leaders to negotiate a larger slice of the African pie. Yes, and we walk right into the trap with our blinkered vision. How quickly Africa forgets!
One very interesting submission made here was that the ANC has failed to silence Mr Malema. Indeed this is interesting since he is generally viewed to be such a "problem" to society. Moreover, if this individual is truly devoid of intellectual capacity (which I much doubt, and I have not yet met the man), then where is he getting his political and philosophical ideology? I tell you, "We are chumps, chumps I tell you... and we are trapped from all sides, trapped, trapped.... and double trapped". We are trapped because we have been caught by the age-old philosophy of synthesis. You see, when one combines thesis with anti-thesis... You get synthesis!!! How crafty, no? Now, I am by no means making excuses, and I must admit that there have been monumental failures in our young democracy. But did it not take the colonists centuries to find their way to Africa? Did it not take war, after war, after war to find a balance of powers? Do we seriously think that Rome was built over night? How then can we believe that this great South Africa we all envisage can be created over night? Also, did the Boers not learn their now legendary farming affinities from trial and error? Was Africa not a thriving farming and commercial district even before the colonists arrived? It’s just very funny how quickly we forget all of this. It is rather convenient also that we choose and select which parts of our history to rely on... Lastly, we should be very weary of how or governments spend our monies and they should at all times be accountable!!! But at the same time, we cannot neglect that there has been an ideological shift in our political paradigm, to which end it is moving is still questionable. My strong feeling is that we are yet to see things that will make our eyes pop out, so it is still morning... My fear is that while the masses are pre-occupied with these small and crafty distractions, allot more is happening behind closed doors. This is the time for those "social intelligencia" to prove to us that they deserve that title. For ignorance is at logger-heads with intellect. To jump ship, run off to "Mother Europe" is what the colonists want. Because your "intelligence" is what is needed to feed this raging beast called globalization. Trouble in Africa equals cheap "intellectual" assets for the rest of the world, lack of critical thinkers to combat the attack on the security of our nations, trading "colonies (... I mean partners...)", and an abundance of natural resources (which will also soon run out, look at Botswana for example). If we are so fiercely opposed to the way in which the ruling party is running affairs, then let’s see an alternative put forth. If we are truly "intelligent", then we should be leading the working class. We should be the moral compasses of society, what will it help if we sit here bickering and moaning? Let us go out there and be the change we wish to see. Rise up, use every energy vessel you have, every resource, put your back against the wall, develop a "devil may care attitude" and let us all lead this country out of this slump! Because the way in which we are doing things now will accomplish very little and we don’t even have the sense of knowing that! I tell you, we are "trapped, trapped and double trapped"...

hmmmmmmm..........i think i know where this may be going. It's all a bit suspicious. First JZ comes out and says that 'Mini me Amin' is gonna be the next big chief and that he loves him lots. Then, the ANC says that he needs protection (from who?? whites, counter revolutionaries, colonialists??). Step 3 could be the end of the Malema rise in the ANC cabal, as he takes a bullet. It's all quite neat - the blame can be nicely aimed at counter revolutionary whites, and nobody will suspect his biggest fan, Mr Prez. Very clever........if that's what JZ is up to. Let's see.....

"The VIP Protection Unit is an arm of the South African Police Service responsible for the transportation of the president, deputy president, cabinet ministers and MECs" - Wikipedia.
Now this is the man which together with his buddies at Luthuli's House are gunning for nationalisation of mines so that things like "free education" can become a reality whereas the R300 000 which he is spending on VIP Protection, undeservingly so, can go a long way in helping a handfull of rural schools. This ANC government is taking ordinary South Africans backwards and only escalating their members to the good life. Enjoy it Juju, you are one hell of a lucky chap... from a failed academic to a "superstar"...

What a joke! More money being wasted in this idiot. Maybe he should stop being such a racist then fewer people might want to kill him!

This fat little Piglet is in danger owing to the infighting in the remains of the ANC. Though, of course, he has absolutely NO RIGHT to public funding for his nannies. The scrabbling around the swine trough has started turning deadly. Piglet has too much dirt on too many of the Big Fat Mafuta Pigs. They all know it -- all are doing the same thing (it is Animal Farm meets Byzantium). And we are going to see the swindling and the manoeuvering, the blackmailing, the litigation, the redeploying and the paying-off turn into foul play. The knives are being drawn in that House of Cards named Luthuli, and we are going to see mayhem as never before.
But why should we, you and I pay for the Piglet's 'protection' from the enemies he has made in the ANC? I call for a NATIONWIDE TAX BOYCOTT. ** Viva The Great South Afican Tax Boycott of 2010/11 Viva! **

@ Concerned Citizen The great danger to this dangerous little twerp is his 'comrades' in the ANC. All the individuals whose dirty washing he has been collecting for a long time. We are soon going to see some very ugly developments behind the lavatories at Luthuli House.
If you draw the knife, you must fear the knife. (Old Neapolitan nursery rhyme)
