The South African Rugby Union has written to the French Rugby Union expressing South Africa's dismay at the performance of the national anthem before Friday night's Test match in Toulouse. "As a union we were shocked and horrified by the rendition of the anthem and I contacted the French Federation on Saturday morning to express our very grave concerns," said Oregan Hoskins, president of Saru. "The performance of the anthem is a treasured part of any rugby international and we take great pains in this country in the selection and rehearsal of artists to ensure we appropriately honour all anthems. "Something went seriously awry in Toulouse and the upshot was offence has been caused, not just to the Springboks and Saru, but to South Africans in general. "I congratulate France on their victory in the Test match, but look forward to their response on this important issue," said the Saru statement issued on Monday. - Sapa TOPICS IN THIS ARTICLE

The anthem was indeed a shock and an embarrassment and you could see the uncertainty and dismay on the faces of the players. But really it was just an omen for the rubbish Bok rugby that was to follow.

I heard a bit of the rendition on 702 this morning. The man is tone deaf (blaming it on poor equipment is no excuse) and listening to John Robbie's interview with him it is also clear that he suffers from verbal diarrhea

The French were fired up by their anthem, the Boks were confused by theirs. Pitiful scrummaging and rucking and a fired up French team were a bridge too far for the weary Boks.

The French are notoriously proud of their anthem. I wonder what would have happened had we mangled that the same way here before a match! By now the French government would have send public protests and there would have been demonstrations at the SA embassy.

From what I read in the UK papers yesterday, the singer was either supplied or recommended by the SA Embassy in France. Probably the brother of someone over there?

The french hired this guy knowing that he can't sing to save his life. They beat us mentally and physically. When you see Bakkies going in for stitches, then you know that we're in trouble.

What is this article on about? The SA embassy organised the guy, hes from Durban! They should apologise, not the french. As per usual our officials screwed up.

Somebody should explain to this Rasta that he is supposed to separate the pips from the weed before he smokes. He was super KAK. BAD EQUIPMENT, BULLSHIT, he was in way over his head.

I did not hear the singing but, I will be damned if anyone butchers our national anthem. Suprising the most, this bad drunkered is a South African. A non - apologising, arrogant Bus**rd who must not be given any chance at the nations expense whatsoever.
I hang my head in shame.

So how was this moron selected to sing the Anthem?
And why oh why must he be one of the worst than could be picked –just about any nine year old would have gotten the lyrics way better –not to mention that he could not keep a tune to save his life. How can the French be blamed for a SAn totally mangling the SAn Anthem? To top it all, he gives a huge barrage of the weakest excuses for excuses on live radio. (Typical African Denialist –no it’s not my fault; it’s the fault of the price of eggs. Blah, blad –ad infintum.) Then comes the cinch: this morning, on request he sang live for us the Anthem without the host of factors that “explained” his shocking performance –only to give another shocking joke of a performance. And I am convinced that the utter fool thought he did a good job on this morning’s show. Clearly he does not have the required base level of intelligence to either sing or talk. Only In SA.

Ah, at last something SARU can do well: Bitch and moan about something that has nothing to do with the game! Like ASA and the Caster saga (when ASA thought they could blame someone else). So, SARU, who'll be singing the anthem at the NEXT game (or is planning ahead asking a bit much?) ----------- For what it's worth, my vote goes for SCRAPPING the singing of ALL "national anthems" before ALL sporting events. Read that again: SPORTING EVENTS (they're should not be revved up to the level of international warfare). Just my vote . . .

so, in our great country of equal opportunity, could we get a recovering drug addict, who has recently been saved from the Occult (by Rhema), but still has strong links with a white supremist, minority group to have a go at singing the national anthem??
andrew mcarthur on November 16, 2009, 1:35 pm
There is a deafening silence from someone called Julius Malema!
And will we declare WAR against the French as well?

The look on Schalk Burger's face says it all! Disgusting!!
Nicky Liguori on November 16, 2009, 2:43 pm
This guy, along with whoever recommended him, should be locked up in a maximum security prison with this "song" playing over and over for the rest of his life...........what an idiot?!!!!!
Vusi Mtsweni on November 16, 2009, 3:15 pm
Oh well - thanks Andrew - now we know who Rhema is big buddies with - so coul this be the linkage here?
sue topham on November 16, 2009, 6:17 pm
I was listening to the Moron, Ras Dumisani on Metro FM Yesterday, Robert Marawa gave him a chance to sing the Anthem again live on the Discovery show. I was disgusted, the idiot was worse than before. He must be smoking weed. He is not even ashamed of himself. Whoever recruited tha guy must fired...
