Eskom denied reports by Radio 702 on Wednesday that it was considering dropping its proposed tariff increase by 10% from 45%.

"I don't know where that comes from," said spokesperson Andrew Etzinger.

"We are in the process of consolidating inputs received from a variety of stakeholders and in part from [the South African Local Government Association] and National Treasury."

It will submit its final application to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa by next Friday.

"At this stage it would be premature to speculate about any change to the price application that we have put forward already ... the outcome is not known at the moment." -- Sapa
