In recent times, there has been much talk about the causes of teachers' stress. Recently the manager of the central regional office of the North West department of education reported at a principals meeting that they were processing up to 500 leave forms a week for teachers who were lying in hospitals because of stress.

KZN plans to tackle infrastructure backlog
The KwaZulu-Natal department of education has come up with strategies to improve education infrastructure in the province. This follows a meeting of 200 delegates at a two-day conference on education infrastructure that was hosted by the department.

Taking action against Aids
If you mention HIV/Aids to teenagers, they say they've heard it all -- they claim to “know it all”. Consequently many of them still practise unsafe sex, which leads to pregnancy and the spread of the HI virus. To counter the status quo, there has been a proposal that HIV/Aids be introduced as a school subject.

Education best practice entrants from around the world
Three South African projects will be competing in the Commonwealth Good Practice awards, which will be announced for the first time during the 16th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers in Cape Town during December. An education good practice is an “education programme which has made a positive difference to the status or condition of primary school children, their teachers or the education system of a country”.
