The Bio Growing up, Mandy Rossouw did not have a political bone in her body. Life in the winelands in the Western Cape was a pleasant affair, and the closest she came to politics was to read about it in those lectures they make you take if you want a degree from the University of Stellenbosch. After majoring in politics, philosophy and English, she went skipping off to the journalism school on the same campus, figuring that those who read must, at some point, learn to write. A scholarship from multinational company Media24 put the journey on a more serious route. After nine months at the Afrikaans daily Beeld , she was sent to cover the Gauteng legislature, and nine months after that to cover parliament in Cape Town. Suddenly playtime was over and the political bug got stuck in. Properly. She became immersed in dissecting laws, probing politicians and following debates. And the passion still goes on. From Cape Town she headed to the London office of Media24 as foreign correspondent and once back in South Africa, joined the Mail&Guardian. Today she serves as the paper's deputy political editor. Last year she penned, with co-author and veteran journalist Max du Preez, a book on the number one political badboy Julius Malema, and in 2010 she spent time at Duke University in North Carolina, US, as a Mellon Fellow.
