Blue Bulls player ‘Bees’ Roux gets R100 000 bail

Blue Bulls rugby player Jacobus Stephanus “Bees” Roux (28) was granted bail of R100 000 at the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Monday after he allegedly beat a metro policeman to death.

He spent the weekend in jail after he was arrested on Friday in connection with the alleged killing of Tshwane metro police officer Ntshimane Mohale (38).

The courtroom was packed to capacity as Roux applied for bail on Monday.

Roux’s defence counsel asked for bail of R5 000. “I have no intention to live the life of a fugitive,” Roux told magistrate Desmond Nair.

However, the State asked for bail of R20 000 because of the nature of the crime.

Pointing out that Roux was accused of a schedule six offence because a law enforcement officer was involved, Nair adjourned the case so that lawyers could discuss the issue of bail.

He intended pleading not guilty to the murder charge he faced.

The matter was postponed to October 15. –Sapa
